Entrepreneurs Recognized at Venture London Awards
Venture London, a business plan competition held annually in the city, announced the winners of this year’s awards at a ceremony held April 4th at the Best Western, Lamplighter Inn. Variable Speed Controls was awarded more than $30,000 in cash and prizes in the planned business category for their plan for bringing energy conservation devices for pool pumps to the market. In the existing business category, Race Roster received more than $40,000 in cash and prizes for their cloud-based registration platform for road race organizers.
Fifty-one business plans were submitted to the competition, representing a broad range of businesses from fields including manufacturing, industrial services, financial services, retail operations, and medical devices. The four-month, two-round competition was designed to help entrepreneurs and new businesses develop sound business plans.

Solar Opportunities Lighting Up in London: CanSIA Connections
With our recent attraction of Samsung, London is quickly gaining a reputation as a hothouse for Ontario’s solar industry. OPEN for Business Emergency Preparedness Workshop
As part of the City of London’s National Emergency Preparedness Week activities, local business owners are invited to learn from the Goderich Community Emergency Management Coordinator and Chamber of Commerce about their experience during the 2011 tornado. The workshop will be held Monday, May 7th, from 9 am to 4 pm, at the London Emergency Operations & Training Centre, #12 Firehall in Byron. Participants will tour the centre and hear from London Emergency Management staff and officials from Western’s Institute of Catastrophic Loss Reduction. OPEN for Business is a free program that provides a disaster protection and a recovery planning toolkit for small to mid-sized businesses.
